PreXion3D Explorer EX overview

The PreXion3D Explorer EX is a latest-generation cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) system manufactured in the United States and designed specifically for dental and maxillofacial imaging. It combines sub-millimeter voxel resolution with multiple field-of-view (FOV) modes, making it suitable for a broad range of clinical applications from single-tooth endodontics to full-face airway analysis.

The unit is certified for use in the United States. Scan specifications, dose values, and voxel sizes are subject to manufacturer documentation and may vary depending on the selected protocol.

Field-of-view (FOV) options

The PreXion3D Explorer EX supports four standard FOV modes. The technologist selects the appropriate FOV based on the clinician's prescription and the ALARA principle (as low as reasonably achievable). Smaller FOVs produce lower dose and higher resolution for the captured volume.

Voxel resolution

Depending on the selected protocol, the PreXion3D Explorer EX produces voxel sizes ranging from approximately 0.07 mm in high-resolution endodontic mode to 0.30 mm for full-face maxillofacial scans. Sub-millimeter resolution is maintained across all standard clinical modes.

DICOM output and viewer compatibility

All scans are exported in open-format DICOM 3.0, the universal standard for medical imaging. DICOM files are delivered to your practice via encrypted Google Drive link or your preferred secure transfer method within 15 minutes of scan completion.

Mobile imaging suite

The PreXion3D Explorer EX is permanently installed in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter custom-fitted mobile imaging suite. The suite is purpose-built for CBCT acquisition and includes:

• Climate-controlled patient space (heated and cooled year-round)
• Sterile surfaces and infection-control protocol between patients
• Dedicated on-board power supply for consistent imaging performance
• ARRT-certified CT technologist on board for every appointment

The suite parks at or adjacent to your clinic. Patients step out of your waiting room, complete the scan, and return — typically within 20 minutes total.
